As COP27 approaches…

The 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference will be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt between 6-18 November 2022.

United Nations climate change Egypt senior champion Mahmoud Mohieldin said the Cop27 summit should focus on adaptation of life in a changing climate and climate finance for loss and damage caused by the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.

A hundred days before the start of the Cop27 summit, a group of environmentalists and activists expressed their concern that a successful conference would not be possible due to Egypt's poor record on human rights.

The Impact Of Energy Poverty On Climate Change Protests: No New Oil!

Environmental protesters demonstrated at gas stations in central London. They destroyed the pumps, sealed the entrances, and spray-painted the signs with "no new oil".

While some groups did sit-ins at the entrances or glued themselves to the pumps, others moved from station to station, damaging the pumps.

The group pointed to energy poverty, noting that the action coincided with the announcement of a massive increase in electricity bills in October that will push millions more into poverty and force them to choose between heating and food.

Activists said the location of the show was chosen because it was in 99 percent of the worst pollution in Britain. Additionally, he cited a 2019 study by Imperial College London that said around 4,000 people die from air pollution in London alone each year.
